Polar ice opens its doors
Facility was converted from a roller rink to an ice rink. First puck dropped November 11th, 1999. For more than 20 years following, Polar Ice continued to host practices, games & other events. (24 years to be exact!) Mike, Pat, and their families generously supported the Fairbanks Hockey community throughout these 20+ years and sustained as the only privately owned rink in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.2023
Rink is under new ownership
The Rady family (also the owners of Alyeska Builders) are given the opportunity to carry on Mike & Pat McGlinchy's vision for Polar. Ownership transition takes place July 31st, 2023 and we prepare for our very first season as hockey rink owners! :) Our team gets ready for a whirlwind month, with just over 30 days before the rink opens for the next season!2023-2024 Hockey Season
round 1 enhancements
ADA ramp / seating area added to the facility. Heat is turned up 10° (progress)! ;) New jumbo flags installed! Rec skating brought back to Polar! Fun skates took place - disco, country, and even Taylor Swift skates!2024-2025 hockey season
round 2 enhancements
Pro shop is constructed. Bathrooms are remodeled. New girl's locker room is built! Refresh of other finishes in the rink. More to come.. stay tuned!September 2024
